Big News for Wood4Good… and a Personal Ask

Hey friends,

Lately I’ve found myself reflecting on just how far Wood4Good has come. When we first started out in our driveway back in 2019, it was just a simple idea: cut a few cords of wood, help a few neighbors, and do our small part to keep our community warm. It was never meant to become an organization. There was no grand plan—just a desire to make sure no one went cold.

But year after year, need after need, something extraordinary happened. People showed up. Volunteers split and stacked. Families shared stories about how receiving a load of firewood changed their winter. Communities stepped up with support, with encouragement, and with trust. What began as a quiet, simple act of kindness grew far beyond anything we could have imagined.

And today, we’re reaching a milestone that feels both humbling and incredibly hopeful.

We’ve secured Federal funding from the Alliance for Green Heat for a high-capacity firewood processor.

This is more than a piece of equipment—it’s a turning point.

For years, one of our biggest limitations has been geography. We could only serve the communities within reach of where logs were delivered to us. That meant places like Rochester, Danville, and other rural towns—where heating support is most urgently needed—were often out of reach simply due to logistics.

This new processor changes everything.
With it, we can actually bring the equipment to the logs, process firewood right where it’s sourced, and deliver it to households faster than ever before. This mobility is a game-changer for rural Vermonters who are often the most isolated when heating crises hit.

The Need Keeps Growing

This year, requests for help have surged higher than at any other point since we began. Heating costs are rising, wages aren’t keeping pace, and a growing number of families—especially older Vermonters on fixed incomes—are being pushed into impossible decisions. Groceries or heat? Medicine or heat? Rent or heat?

No one should be forced into those choices.

Warmth isn’t a luxury. It’s safety. It’s stability. It’s dignity. And for so many Vermonters, it’s slipping further out of reach.

We’re So Close—And We Need Your Help

The Federal support gets us most of the way to purchasing the processor… but not all the way. To complete the purchase, transport it, and get it operational, we still need to raise $10,000.

This is where our community becomes essential.

Every cord of wood we deliver costs about $200 to process and bring to a family. Every donation—no matter the size—helps us close this gap and brings us closer to making sure no Vermonter goes cold this winter.

Here’s how you can help:

  • Donate if you’re able—every dollar directly fuels this work.
  • Share our story with friends, neighbors, coworkers, and local groups.
  • Connect us with a supporter or potential partner who shares our vision.
  • Volunteer—time, tools, and hands make a real, measurable impact.

This processor isn’t simply an upgrade. It represents the next chapter of Wood4Good: a future where we’re able to serve more towns, reach more families, and respond faster and more effectively when the weather turns cold.

Most importantly, it brings us closer to our mission:
a Vermont where no one is left in the cold—from north to south, ridge line to valley.

Thank you for being part of this journey, for believing in what we’re building, and for helping us keep Vermonters warm—one cord, one home, one family at a time.

Let’s keep Vermont warm, together.
