Students Give Back: 2025 High School Service Day

At Wood4Good, we were honored to welcome a dedicated group of students from Mount Mansfield Union High School as part of their 2025 Day of Service.

From the moment they arrived, the MMU students brought energy, focus, and a clear sense of purpose. They worked side by side in the woodlot, helping us prepare firewood that will be delivered to local families who rely on it to stay warm during the winter. At Wood4Good, our mission is to provide free firewood to families in need, and we depend heavily on the help of volunteers to get the job done. The MMU students truly stepped up, showing a deep commitment to service and community support.

Throughout the day, the students jumped right into the hard work—splitting, stacking, and moving firewood with care and enthusiasm. Their teamwork, respect for the process, and willingness to help each other stood out.

The group came from MMU’s Advisory Program, a thoughtful and structured part of the school’s approach to student development. In this program, small, multi-grade groups meet regularly with a faculty advisor. These groups focus on building relationships, encouraging personal growth, and inspiring community engagement. Faculty members help guide students through their high school experience, encouraging them to become kind, responsible, and involved citizens.

For their Day of Service, this particular advisory group chose to support Wood4Good—and they brought the program’s values to life. They asked thoughtful questions about our mission, showed real curiosity about how their work would help others, and treated the space and each other with care and respect. Their actions reflected the heart of MMU’s Advisory Program: service, empathy, and leadership.

What stood out most was not just the work they accomplished, but the way they approached it. The students supported one another, stayed engaged, and maintained a positive, respectful attitude throughout the day. Their presence lifted our spirits and reminded us how important it is to involve young people in community service—not just to help get things done, but to instill values that last a lifetime.

At Wood4Good, we believe that strong communities are built on acts of kindness, big and small. The students from Mount Mansfield Union showed us just how powerful those acts can be. Their contribution helped prepare essential firewood for families in need and brought new energy to our mission.

We are deeply grateful for their time, effort, and positive attitude. We look forward to future partnerships with MMU and are proud to support a school that prioritizes service and character as much as academics. These students set a strong example of what it means to give back, and our community is better because of them.

Warming hearts, and warming homes.
